The Hill & Lake Press enthusiastically presents the 2025 Kids’ Issue! On behalf of our board and staff, we could not be more grateful for the artists, writers and poets who decided to contribute to the cherished issue, and we thank everyone who spent time working on these pieces and the families who support the little creatives.
From inquisitive journalistic submissions to hand-drawn comics, to tricky word searches to thoughtful short stories and creative poems, to vibrant art, each submission in this issue was made with love and care by neighborhood kids.
But that’s not all. 2026 has proved to be a revival of all things 2016, from energetic music to saturated photos; this year showed us that nostalgia can captivate us. And what better way is there to capture the magic and desire to experience moments that we cannot relive than going back a little further? Say, the 1980s? After all, if we are this curious about what life was like 10 years ago, imagine what there is to learn by looking at a kid’s perspective of life nearly 50 years ago.
So, this year, carrying on the throwback we included in last year's kids’ edition, we dug through the digital archives and decided to include the front page and selected articles from 1987.
It has been a joy to curate and compile the 2026 edition. This tradition is one of our favorites, and we hope you enjoy reading, solving and viewing the different works included.
