Neighbors will likely soon say goodbye to the Route 25L bus, which runs from downtown Minneapolis through Lowry Hill, Kenwood and Cedar-Isles-Dean before ending at the Jewish Community Center in St. Louis Park.
Part of its route follows the path of the former Douglas Avenue streetcar.
Now running just twice a day, once in the morning and once in the early afternoon, the 25L has experienced a slow decline in service over many years.
In 2011, Hill & Lake Press writer Adam Platt took a deep dive into the history of the 25L and its predecessor, the Route 1 bus.
His article, reprinted here, offers a look back at a neighborhood transit line that may soon make its final run.
Courtney Cushing Kiernat writes for the Hill & Lake Press. She lives in Kenwood.
