From Urban Coyote to Urban Cougar, Eulogize Our Feline Visitor

(Photos Fox 9 News)

Lowry Hill has always had a bit of a wild side under its staid surface, from solstice party she- nanigans to neighbors settling matters with BB guns.

Yet it was still a surprise that a cougar was spotted sashaying across a Lowry Hill driveway late one recent night, seeking fun and most likely looking for a mate. At least that’s what the DNR suggested as the reason for the visit.

Tragically, its adventure in the big city ended on I-394, when it was hit by a car. A friend said she felt like a bit of magic was lost with that news, which is how many of us felt.

We were planning on doing a naming contest for the beautiful feline visitor who graced our lives for a moment, but sadly it will now be a eulogy instead.

We hope you will contribute to that eulogy by sending us your thoughts about this big cat’s visit and its heartbreaking end. We’ll publish a selection of responses in January. Send by email to craig@hillandlakepress.org.
